How to Add a Variable Product?

Adding a variable product in Makers India is a useful way to offer variations of a product with different attributes like size, color, or any other factor that changes the product’s appearance, price, or stock level. Here’s how to add a variable product step-by-step:

Step 1: Create a New Product

  • Log in to your seller dashboard.
  • Navigate to Products > Add New.

Step 2: Set the Product Type

  • Under the Product Data section, there’s a drop-down menu. Select Variable Product from the list to change the product type from the default ‘Simple Product’.

Step 3: Add Product Details

  • Fill in the Product Name and Description as you would for any other type of product.

Step 4: Configure Attributes for Variations

  • Go to the Attributes tab within the Product Data meta box.
  • Click Add to create a new attribute, or select one from the global attributes if you’ve previously defined attributes under Products > Attributes.
  • Enter values for the attribute, separated by a vertical bar (|). For example, if you’re adding sizes, you might type Small | Medium | Large.
  • Make sure to check Used for variations. This allows these attributes to be used to create different variations.
  • Click Save attributes.

Step 5: Create Variations

  • Switch to the Variations tab in the Product Data section.
  • Click on Add Variation from the dropdown menu, then click Go.
  • Select the attributes for the variation using the dropdown menus that appear (e.g., size, color).
  • Specify any additional data for each variation, such as price, stock status, images, weight, and dimensions. Each variation can have its own SKU, price, and other details.
  • Repeat this process for each variation you want to add.

Step 6: Set Product Image and Galleries

  • Set a main product image for the overall product.
  • Add images specific to each variation by editing the variation details. This allows customers to see the specific attributes when they select them.

Step 7: Publish Your Product

  • Once all details and variations are correctly set, click the Publish button to make your variable product live on your website.

Tips:

  • Consistency: Keep attribute naming consistent to avoid confusion. For instance, if you use “Color” for one product, avoid using “Hue” for another unless necessary.
  • Detailed Descriptions: Use the description fields to clarify differences between variations if not obvious from the name or image.
  • Stock Management: Consider whether to manage stock at the product level or variation level depending on how your inventory is handled.

Adding variable products allows you to offer more options to your customers and can help increase sales by catering to different needs and preferences from a single product page.
